Dear Irascible Professor Readers, Writers, and Colleagues:

The Irascible Professor has recovered from travel to Seattle, a nasty summer cold, and visiting grandchildren sufficiently to post another thought provoking article from one of our frequent contributors -- Sanford Pinsker. This time Sandy riffs about the progression of grade inflation from the Gentleman's C to the Gentleman's (and Lady's) A-. The Irascible Professor joins in with his own observations, and with a little historical context.

Enjoy "The Gentleman's A-." in its entirety at:

Dr. Mark H. Shapiro

PS... We have some good articles in the pipeline, but we always can use more. So if you have something interesting to say about K-12 or higher education, send us your article for consideration. We pay $75.00 US for each article posted.

A good read, as always. The article reminded me of the "No Fail" policies
some schools here in Canada have adopted. At some point, the entitlement
must stop.
